Day 4, The 'Yabba
At last, a warm, sunny day!
Cruised out of Mildura on the Silver City Hwy heading for Broken Hill.
Stopped in Wentworth to have a look at the confluence of the Murray and Darling Rivers. Can't really tell if they're flowing but there's certainly plenty of water.
Just about to head back out on the highway when a massive convoy rolled past. A huge piece of equipment (presumably for the mines) on a flat bed trailer with about 20 axles, pulled by 2 prime movers and pushed by another one. 4 lead vehicles and a tail vehicle made up the party. I joined the convoy at the rear. The whole thing proceeded at the stately pace of about 60 kmh. There was no prospect of passing that I could see. It occupied the whole road. "It's going to be a long drive to Broken Hill today", I thought. But no, the behemoth edged one set of tyres off the bitumen and I was summoned to overtake. I still just about had to go cross-country to get past and it didn't slow down at all so I had to hoon down the roadside verge at about 80kmh.
I floored it and thankfully we all lived to tell the tale.
Uneventful apart from that. Lots of wild goats along the way.
Reached Broken Hill in plenty of time to set up, have a look around Argent St, top up on supplies, and then sit outside and watch the sun set. Perfect.
I'm going to stay here a few days.
