Day 53, Kosciuszko

Well, in my madness I decided I'd try and walk to the summit of Kosciuszko today.
To cut a long story short, I didn't quite make it.
I took the shorter route from the top of the Thredbo chairlift.  It's about 6km each way.

About half way up the climb my hip started to pack it in.
There's still a surprising amount of snow around and the track disappears underneath the snow quite regularly.
Heading straight for the target
Anyway I soldiered on.  I made it to Rawson's Pass and a bit beyond, a bit over a km short of the summit.  Some people coming down said that it was snow all the way from there and pretty slippery. My stupid hip was really painful.  I was struggling to lift one leg, so I turned around and headed back down.  About half way down I realised that my hip was OK again.  The pain had gone -- stupid thing. Perhaps it was all in my head?

Not to worry, I enjoyed my day's walk in the ice and snow.  At least I got a reasonably close view of the summit.
