Day 29, Bowen to Mackay

Very overcast today and it rained a bit.
It's raining right now as I'm writing this at 9:00 pm.  Temperature is still 25°and humidity is 93%.  Now that's sticky!

I'm on the Whitsunday coast now so I thought I'd check out Airlie Beach on the way past.  What a disappointment!  It probably was once a beautiful place, but it's now consumed by over-development.  I couldn't get out of the place quickly enough.

Proserpine, on the other hand, still has a genuine (and slightly alternative) feel to it. I stopped for lunch at a café which did a mean green curry.
It's right in the heart of sugarcane country here.
Sugarcane country

Mackay is a big, busy place but I found myself a quiet little park on the beach at Blacks Beach on the northern edge.  Bit hard to go past that one.

The rain is pelting down now.  I think the wet season is approaching.
